This post is created around a handful of drawings I made some 5-6 years ago. I rediscovered them last week in my mom’s basement, and as every time I rediscovered them through the years, they made me smile. I drew them directly with a ballpoint pen on paper, still they came out as good as anything I could have ever planned. Enjoy. Be kind.
Tired
Sometimes... we just need to rest. And sometimes we need to rest... for a really long time.
🥱😴
Instead of that bed-time TV-show, or those stolen 45 minutes on the phone, will you allow yourself to rest, deeply?
"I feel tired. I just gonna watch a movie." No 🙏 Turn off everything, even the electricity itself, and curl up in bed like a cat. Can you imagine that sigh? The one where you finally found the perfect position deep in the soon to be warm scrumpy sheets?
"I feel tired, I need a coffee." No 🙏 Not coffee. Tired does not equal coffee. It never did. Tired equals...
rest. long... a really long. rest.
"I feel tired. I just need 20 mins on the toilet with my phone". 😑
And if you actually allow yourself to let go and wind down. To feel and sigh for every nerve that’s been burnt at the edges.
Would you be able to get up again?
How many long mornings would you need until you’re fresh and ready to take on life?
3?
5?
45?
5 years?
If you would sleep in for 5 years, would you wake with the birds and a smile as the sun gently pats your golden cheeks? Finally...
Rested.
Perhaps some of us have been tasked with resting for the rest of us.
All that accumulated stress needs to go somewhere, doesn't it? Imagine all humans in a city as one big human organism: How many nerves are firing? Are they calm or skittish?
How long do you need to rest if you need to rest for an entire city? Until we are all...
Rested and Peaceful.
How long would you need to rest, to come to peace with yourself?
Deep rest is so rare, not because we don't have time, but because we forgot how to do it. We lost the off-switch. Someone stole the key.
Can you find it?
When the dogs are finished charging up and down the hill like lit maniacs, what do they do? Do they not lay down to do nothing? Masterfully. What does the moma cat do when her kittens fuss about and hang from her ears? Nothing. Rest.
Where is the off-switch? Where is the key? Can you find it? Is it really lost?
Just rest. You deserve it.
You really do,
❤️Alexander
Until next time,
Alexander
Love those cute and spot on drawings. Once my body decided to use the off switch 9 years ago, the awareness came of how much I was ‘on’ all the time. Deep rest is still a skill I want to learn to master more fully. Great reminder, thank you, so much truth in your words!
